The Little Things: August Birthdays

I am a little late on these, but Happy Birthday to Patty (8/25) and Happy 4th Birthday to Landon (8/28). We missed dinner at Chuck E Cheese, but joined every one after for cupcakes and presents. Eddie, Edison and I were lucky enough to get Landon the skateboard he had been wanting and he loved it! Hopefully he doesn’t hurt himself.

The Little Things: Outings

On Saturday night, Eddie and I had our first date night minus Edison. We celebrated the marriage of Amanda and Grant. Everything was beautiful and perfect. Katelyn and family watched Edison for us. He was a little fussy, but they enjoyed their time.

Last night we took Edison to his first Isotopes Game. At first he was not too impressed. Once he woke up, he enjoyed everything that was going on. All of Eddie’s friends loved meeting the little man.

Edison is now smiling intentionally and I finally got a picture of him. Enjoy!

The Little Things: Happy Blogaversary

First, I would like to wish my friend Samantha a very happy 30th birthday today!

Happy Blogaversary to me! One year ago today I started blogging and I am so proud of myself for sticking with it. I originally started it hoping it would become a baby blog, and that came true in November when I found out I was expecting. In July we welcomed Edison, and now I get to share all of the ups and downs with you.

The Little Things: Mommy’s Day Out and One Month Stats

On Sunday, I was able to break away for some much needed time with the girls. We celebrated Samantha’s 30th at Sandia’s pool. It was a wonderful day, and I am so glad I made it work. Edison was also an angel that night. I was really tired and he didn’t punish me. I am so lucky.

Of course, Eddie did an amazing job with Edison while I was gone. Although a little sympathy as to how hard it is would have been nice. I guess I need to stay away longer next time. While Mom’s away, the boys will play, and did they!

Eddie is brewing me a Pumpkin Spice Porter, to be ready in October. I can’t wait! I am hoping it is my favorite one yet.

A little late, but Edison had a one month weight and height check today. He is weighing in at 9.7 pounds and is 21.75 inches long. Here I am thinking he is getting so big, but he is only in the 25th percentile for length and the 17th percentile for weight. Is this really right???

The Little Things: One Month Already!?! And Only!?!

I can’t believe Edison is one month already! It has gone by so fast. It’s also hard to believe that he has been in our lives for only a month now. I can’t imagine our lives without our sweet little man.

The pediatrician’s office was really busy this week, due to school starting on Monday, so we have to wait until next week to check Edison’s stats. He has now outgrown all of his newborn clothes, but the 3 month clothes are too big.

This week we introduced Edison to a bottle and to formula. I was worried, but he did fine. The breast milk in the bottle was not a problem, except for I first gave him a fast nipple. Oooops! The formula was a little harder. He was not sure of the taste at first and made some funny faces. He eventually drank it though. Yay! Now I can play with the girls this weekend.

Here are a few of my favorite pics!

Thanks Amanda for my personalized outfit!

The Little Things: Three Weeks – Already!

One of the many things I have learned in these past three weeks is how my priorities have changed. Sorry I have not posted anything in a while, but I think I am back, and hopefully will have at least one post a week.

Last Monday, Edison had his two week check up.  At that appointment he weighed 7.4 pounds (50th percentile) and 20 inches tall (75th percentile.)  He is growing very well, and will be out of newborn clothing soon.

Last week, I also had my two week follow up appointment from my c-section, and I am healing wonderfully. I still walk at a slower pace, but other than that you wouldn’t really know I had surgery three weeks ago. I am feeling great, and I know how lucky I am.

Eddie’s Mom and Zion left us on Thursday night after being here for over two weeks. We had a wonderful time with both of them. Zion loved his little brother so much. It was so nice to have Gabby here especially with all of the cooking and cleaning she did. While we hated to see them leave, it is nice to have some alone time and to start figuring out what our new normal is going to be.

Today is my second day alone with the little man, and we are surviving. We started what will hopefully be our daily morning walks today. Edison was awake the whole time, but didn’t make a sound. Diego walked perfectly next to the stroller. Both of them made it very enjoyable for me. Both Edison and I took baths this morning, so if we get nothing else accomplished today, it’s going to be okay.

Diego is doing so well with Edison. A lot better than I thought he would. He is very tolerant of him, and really only gets jealous when guests come over.

We are figuring everything out, and can’t wait for what’s to come.

The Little Things: Edison Xavier

It’s a Boy! Edison Xavier was born on Monday, July 9th at 8:57 am. Weighing in at 6 pounds 14 ounces and measuring 19.5 inches long.

Birth Story below…if you care.

At my 36 week pre-natal appointment, it was confirmed that Edison was still in a breeched position. While reading about versions (turning the baby) I was really unsure about that. Luckily my doctor did not think it would be successful due to my size and lack of fluids. It was decided at this appointment that I would be scheduled for a c-section delivery in my 39th week. The following week it was scheduled for Tuesday July 10th, and the waiting game began.

Due to my scoliosis surgery when I was 14, I was told that an epidural was not an option and general anesthesia would be necessary. Among other things, the bummer with this is I would be asleep and I did not want to be the last to know the gender. On Thursday, July 5th I had my last pre-natal appointment. My doctor was so nice to do an ultra sound to try and figure out the gender. I was not sure when I wanted to find this out, but I know I wanted to with Eddie, so she wrote it down and sealed the envelope. Eddie and I did not want anything to change, and I did not think I could know and not tell people, so we decided that we would open it on the way to the hospital.

Once again, Edison had to have things his way. Early Monday morning around 3:30am I started feeling contractions. I got up and started timing them. They were not consistent, but I called the message line and was told to head to the hospital. I woke up Eddie, we both showered, Katelyn came and picked up Zion and we were at the hospital by around 6:30am. We did not open the envelope because we were not sure if it was a go.

I was quickly admitted, and then things got crazy after that. The anesthesiologist was convinced that a spinal block would work on me so we decided to go that route. The benefits were that I would be awake and Eddie and I could be in the room. Again, we did not open the envelope, because we were going to find out soon enough, right? Well, the spinal block did not work like it should of and I ended up being put to sleep. However, Eddie was allowed in the room, and was able to cut the umbilical cord.

I woke up and heard people saying Edison, and asked is it a boy? I was told yes. I was shortly moved to go meet my son and be with Eddie. I had never seen Eddie hold a new born before, but he looked so happy and natural with his son.

Our little man is perfect and we are loving every minute with him. He is doing well, and I am too!
